Chief Dan Hurlock of the Downey Fire Department spoke about challenges in meeting community needs and the reciprocal aid agreements that Downey FD has with other departments to help with public emergencies.
Downey Police Captain Mike Parino was our featured speaker for March. He spoke about the increasing danger of fentanyl to local communities.
Our February speaker was Sheila Tetangco-Bartolone from the Downey Foundation for Educational Opportunities. This stellar organization supports the Downey school district by providing “equitable, affordable, and accessible enrichment programs” for students after school.
Our January speaker was Ignacio Gonzalez from the Southern California Resource Services for Independent Living (SCRS-IL). SCRS-IL provides services that promote independent living for people with disabilities.
Warren High School Jazz Choir, led by Mr. Peterson, performed for our pre-Christmas meeting. Thank you, students and Mr. Peterson, for this wonderful gift to the community.
Dr. John Garcia, Superintendent of Downey Unified School District, spoke on the new services put in place to help students returning to in-person instruction after pandemic restrictions were lifted.
October’s speaker was Gabe Enamorado, Executive Director of Stay Gallery, an art venue now in its 11th year featuring the work of local artists. Gabe announced the Gallery’s new partnership with the Downey Foundation of Educational Opportunity to provide free afterschool art programs at various elementary school campuses
